Artist Statement:
Delahunty Spencer’s vessels and paintings have evolved from an exploration of her current ‘role’ in life. ‘I am an ‘empty nester’ post-menopausal’ woman, a motherless adult ...my role as a nurturer, a mother, and carer of my mother, is slowly being redefined. I lurch from giddy excitement about my new ‘freedom’ to feelings of being slightly ‘untethered’. I am exploring myself as a vessel, the container. My four beautiful children are little vessels of promise, receptacles of my love and dreams.’Â
'My practice has recently moved into another realm, as I started to create the vessels themselves. The ceramic sculptures are decorated with images from my domestic environment. They are vessels about vessels. I’m enjoying this new medium and have found an interesting symbiotic relationship between the two practices of painting and ceramics.’
